    How to install and use PuTTY SSH on Windows 10?

    PuTTY is a free and open source SSH Client for windows. For the security reason, PuTTY replace the Windows built in SSH Secure Shell. It supports various protocols like SSH, SFTP, SCP and many others.


    Download PuTTY:


    Before downloading PuTTY, firstly check the version (32-bit or 64 bit). Must ensure that you are using the latest version of PuTTY. Click on download after according to your operating system supporting version.


    Install PuTTY:


    Run the Installer:


    When the download completes, locate the installation file and double-click it to start it.


    Security Warning:


     You may receive a security warning. As it is a safe and commonly used application, confirm that you want to launch the installer.

     

    Click on next.


    Accept the default path or you can also change the installation path according to your preference.


    Click on Add Shortcut on Desktop and select Will be installed on local hard drive.

    After this click on Install.


    Click Finish.


    You can now see the PuTTY icon on desktop. Double click on it to open PuTTY configuration window.

     

    Use PuTTY SSH:


    PuTTY is a terminal emulator, allowing users to securely connect and operate their remote server systems through a network. PuTTY SSH provides a user-friendly interface for initiating encrypted connections, making it suitable to perform various tasks such as remote server management, file transfers, and command-line operations.


    Establish connection to remote server:

     

    Open PuTTY from the desktop icon.

    The PuTTY configuration window appear.

    In the Hostname section, enter the remote server IP address or username.

    Select the connection type to SSH and port to 22.


    Save Session:


    If you want to connection, in “Saved Sessions" section, enter your session name and click the "Save" button. To save the session.

    Establish a connection:

    To start the connection, click the "Open" button.

    Enter the username and password when prompted.
